Suspension Upgrade Project Part IV: Slam Specialties HE-6 Airsprings So far, Commuter Status has received a KP Components 6-Link and Slam bags out back. This time, we visit the front, where the bags were over four years old, and had definitely seen some road time and some high pressure as well. Blowoff valves had been installed in order to avoid over-inflating the bags. This safety precaution would no longer be necessary, as the Slam Specialties HE-6 airbags that now adorned the front were rated at 400psi. Let me repeat: RATED at 400psi! New upper and lower cups accompanied the Slam Bags, and the lower cups were bolted in this time around. Might we also add, the Slam Bags up front were 1/2" dual-port, which will come in handy later in the suspension upgrade. Getting the old front bags out was simple, but because the new Slam Bags were much stiffer, they would not go into place without separating the lower ball joint from the spindle and removing the shocks, allowing the control arm to drop down. With new Slam Specialties bags pimpin' each corner, things were starting to look up. The first picture shows the new Slam bag, the second shows the original bag, and the third is a comparison (old on the left, Slam on the right).
