Let's face it - if you have a bagged S10, you have probably dragged through the exhaust by now. And if you haven't, you soon will. Anything that hangs low and crosses over (ahem, like the exhaust), is bound to get beat up. Here's one solution...
Some may consider the S-10 hot dog mod to be a somewhat ghetto solution for the dragged-through exhaust scenario. Perhaps this is true, but frankly, I don't care. I simply don't feel like forking out money for exhaust right now, and my truck can't have any down time, as it is my daily.
So, our solution was to plate what was already there, forming the functional-but-not-so-pretty hot dog mod. This is no laughing matter, so search for some maturity and hang in there with me.
Simply cut out the plating, cut slits so it can hug the exhaust pipe, and tack weld it in. Then fully weld in this "patch," being sure to weld the slits up as well. There you have it. Your dragged through exhaust now has a safety layer, which can now become a new canvass for you to drag through.
Cheap & easy? Yup. Aesthetically questionable? Absolutely.
