So I gotta a pretty interesting email today; I thought was pretty cool. So heres the question and my response, tell me what you think.

QUESTION:

i got somethin i wanna tell you, well fist off my name is keith and im from louisiana and im 20 yrs old , but anyway i was talkin to this guy at work today and he said "youll grow outta those lowrider trucks in a few years" and i started thinkin ya know ive heard this alot especially from my dad, he thinks that once you turn a certain age, certain things stop such as my love for mini trucks, and he says well keith how many 30 year old guys you see rollin around in those and i say well hardly none but i stated thinkin today that the fact of the matter is not that you grow out of it, its that people who are 35 or up were never really exposed to to the mini truck scene cause to my knowledge, tha scene wasnt too big back then, i dont think it really started gettin big until what tha late 80's early 90's, so when tha older guys were young it was just startin to get big where as now all of us young kids are into it because we've been more exposed to the scene and we just havnt gotton the chance to get old yet, you see what im sayin, i know theres a lot of middle aged guys/girls way hardcore into the scene, there has to be cause they started it all, i know ill be *** 75 yrs old and still rollin a mini, its my life, my mazda i had caught on fire and i just bought an 07 colorado which had 26miles on it and i already have plans of cuttin it up, anyway, maybe you can out this in your column and explain this situation better than i can cause i know theres a lot of kids who get told the same thing i do everyday and it really gets frustrating hearin that but they dont know because they arent in tha scene, mini truckin is not a age thing, its a sport, its a hobby and for me its *** way of life

p.s. if you decide to make this a column, maybe you could add what wyantt strange said, that is my favorite of all qoutes

ANSWER:

I see what you're saying, but the sad truth is your dad is actually kind of right. Most minitruckers grow out of their trucks or just get over them. Some turn to other things like off road, or hot rods. I see it happen all the time. I'm 30 years old and I drive a body drop daily, but we're actually a rare breed. I know guys in there 50's that drive minis. These are the guys that were in their 20s when minitruckin was at its peak. These guys to me are the guys I look up to, they've stuck with it through the years.

You have to remember something; Minitruckin' right now is at its low point (hopefully making a comeback actually). Minitruckin' was bigger in the late 80s early 90s when you were probably still pretty young. Mini Truckin' magazine started in 1989, which was the pinnacle of all things minitrucks. Back then shows had thousands of trucks at them not hundreds. Times were also easier for trucks back then. Without things like air ride it was easier to be a minitrucker when all you had to do was turn your torsions and throw some blocks in the back. As time and trends have progressed; less and less people can afford to be a minitrucker. Times change man, it sucks but it happens. Write me back when you're 30 and well both laugh at your dad together if you're still rolling low. lol

c ya
