12:45AM (before bed on Friday, May 16th), coming to you from a hotel room in Clackamas, Oregon, after today's sixteen hours and a thousand miles on the road with our 2008 Mitsubishi Evolution.
Our journey from Los Angeles, California, to Portland, Oregon, went smoothly and quickly today. With temperatures soaring, it was a beautiful day spent in the car, from before sunrises to after sunset. This was the first turbo charged car I've ever driven; most of the day was spent trying to control my speed. It's a fun car! It's so easy to get carried away in a car that's not yours on roads that you're not familiar with, because it doesn't feel like real life. I had to remind myself that, just like when I'm behind the wheel of my trucks, I really could get in trouble, and that all the same rules still applied.
We had a clean run, with the only scare being a motorcycle cop that we almost didn't spot until too late, chillin' in the shade on the side of a windy, hilly section of Interstate 5 by Shasta Lake. (By the way, that is Mt. Shasta in the background of the photo.) I was just beginning to pass the two cars of our already speeding cluster, which would have put me even faster, when we spotted him literally right there at that section of the road. I swerved back in line behind the cars right as we passed him. Close call! I contributed the resulting cop paranoia on the Brawndo energy drink (yes, we came equipped with Brawndo!) I was working on at the time of the incident.
And yes, we're rolling a Mini Truckin' sticker!
