Somebody, Get This Girl Some Jumper Cables!

Dead Truck Batteries

Three separate incidences in a row indicate that I've had some bad luck with car batteries recently.

1. I was greeted by a dead battery in my S10 one night as I decided it would be a good idea to awake it from its 3ish week nap (I know, I know) and reintroduce it to city streets. Several days after a jump start and few minutes of running, it returned to its dead state again; after some time on the road, the problem was solved. Why it went dead? I don't know. Not driving it often enough.

2. Around that same time, but totally unrelated, I left my lights on in my Mazda B2000 during work, which caused that battery to go dead. Unlike the Chevrolet, the Mazda's lights are not automatic. I had turned them on during my morning drive because it was quite dark and gloomy. When the truck wouldn't even attempt to start, I knew immediately what I had done. Solution? Never use lights (that aren't automatic) during the day, because you WILL forget to turn them off. Thanks AAA!

3. Several days after that, and again completely unrelated, I dropped by a local Starbucks on my way to work to grab my usual coffee. I was thankful to have the Mazda as a backup stock truck, as I had broken something on the S10 (again, unrelated) during the previous morning's drive to work. However, sitting there in the Starbucks parking lot after getting my coffee, I could tell after the first crank that it was not going to start. It was truly pathetic, and only grew more pathetic with each attempt. I finally reached THAT point - you know what I mean - THAT point of defeat where you stop, stare straight ahead, and realize it's not going to work. I also realized at that point that BOTH of my trucks were now "broken." (Funny how that works, huh!) So, I started walking the few blocks to work, truly hoping work would fire me for being late two days in a row due to car problems. Thankfully I got a ride at the last minute from a co-worker and remained employed. By lunchtime, the truck would start, and I was able to get it home.

After swapping out the Mazda's ancient battery, thanks to Kris, whose truck is shown above, I was back on the road again. He was nice enough to drive all the way to his house and back in order to deliver a new battery. This was such a life-saver, as stores were closing, the truck was dead, and I had no other way to get to work the next day.
