Our tonneau cover restoration project was a tremendous success, considering the dire condition of the tonneau when we started.
The results were exactly as I had hoped for. The dull, cloudy, porous custom flame paint job was transformed into the smooth, wet-looking, vibrant, multi-dimensional flame job that it once was. The blues became blue again, and the pearl white set of flames, that had since yellowed, came to life again and contrasted beautifully against the Chevy indigo blue. I was smiling ear to ear as we took outdoor photos of the finished product. I had given up all hope of even attempting to take care of the tonneau cover, but now, the excitement had returned.
Of course, the small areas where the clear coat had worn off still remained, and areas where the pinstripe was flaking still existed, and the chip from a friend's knife (who leaned against the truck) still stuck out, but those were separate issues. Our only concern now is how the shine will hold up. How long will it retain the deep shine? It is certainly leaps and bounds better than before the restoration project, and I'm hoping that since the truck is now garaged for the first time in its life, our efforts were not in vain.
