That's right! By now you might have heard about Ricky's runaway Chevy S10 off the back of a trailer on the way to the Ludikrs Show this past weekend in San Bernardino, CA.
Well, I saw it for real on Sunday morning, laid out on the grass, and heard the story straight from the owner. The first thing I noticed was that the side was quite scratched up, and the top of the roof too, which was peculiar for such a nice truck. I figured the roll pan had been severly dragged. It was dirty. Then I noticed that the front end was all bashed up, and that there were tumble weeds in the engine compartment. Returning to the bed, I began to see more and more body damage throughout the whole truck. Some calamity had struck not just one portion of the truck, but the whole thing.
The owner was in good spirits, and after hearing his story, he was lucky just to have the truck still. While on the road, the truck loosened itself from the trailer and rolled off. Imagine the rear-view mirror sight of your truck backing off the trailer at highway speeds! It then veered left, across the center of the highway, and into oncoming traffic. It then lurched across an overpass, careened down the backside, slid under several fences, and finally came to a stop.
Meanwhile, Ricky and crew could not find the truck. Can you imagine?! What a surreal phone call to CHP that must have been! Well, obviously they finally found the truck, laying body, buried in the weeds. Beat up but still able to run, this show-bound truck will undoubtedly hit the shop these coming weeks and come out better than before.
Although there was substantial damage to the truck, at least no one got hurt. It could have been hit head-on by the oncoming semis, could have been t-boned as it crossed the overpass street, or could have center-punched a tree, just to name a few possible outcomes.
What could have been a life-altering tragedy instead turned into a "remember when" story in the form of a banged up, but fixable, truck, and for that, we are all thankful.
